Who Is Midwife-Led Fertility Care For?
Midwifery care is for everyone! Bay Fertility Care particularly specializes in care for those whose needs often go unmet in the mainstream health system. This includes: queer people, trans and nonbinary people, single people, people who experience size discrimination, “older” parents, non-traditional families, those wishing to include ritual or cultural practices in their process, and those seeking a more holistic approach to health and fertility.

What are the differences between at-home IUI with a midwife and care at a fertility clinic?
At-home IUI with a midwife offers a more flexible, personalized, and lower-intervention approach to fertility care, allowing for precise timing, continuity of care, and support that adapts to your body rather than a clinic schedule.
We are on-call for you and can provide services outside of typical business hours, assuring your IUI is well-timed in your peak fertility window.
Clinics typically provide care Monday-Friday and only during particular hours. If your ovulation occurs outside of these hours, your IUI will performed at a time that may reduce your likelihood of success.
Our care is oriented towards people who are presumed to have healthy fertility, but need some extra support. This is especially true for queer people, single women, or straight couples experiencing male-factor sub-fertility. We work with people to optimize their fertility using holistic methods.
Clinics specialize in female infertility, and are a great option for people who need IVF or other types of more specialized intervention. Clinics tend to orient their care towards heterosexual couples, who often have different needs than queer/trans people or those building non-traditional families.
Receive personalized care that is based in your home, with a midwife who is accessible by text or phone call at any time.
Clinics tend to feel sterile and impersonal, and it can be difficult to reach a provider outside of scheduled appointment times.

Love Notes From Clients
“El is amazing! She helped my wife and I get pregnant. We never felt judged and always felt cared for…I surged during a holiday and Kaiser was not open. I messaged El and we inseminated IUI the evening before a holiday and immediately became pregnant… I cannot thank her enough and will continue to use her in the future for another pregnancy.”
-Linday D
“We have had such a positive experience with El! From the very beginning, she has been supportive, attentive, and always willing to answer any question we had. She guided us through our first successful IUI, and now we are grateful to have her by our side again as we try for our second. Her expertise and calming advice make the process feel less overwhelming and give us so much reassurance. I cannot recommend her enough!”
-Allison H, October 2025
“I am a midwife myself, and received wonderful care from El throughout a very challenging fertility journey. I had seen several other providers for IUIs (intrauterine inseminations), and El's inseminations were by far the gentlest and also the most efficient. Even the nurse-midwives and nurse-practitioners I saw at UCSF's Center for Reproductive Health could not match her level of mastery of this procedure. My very-cerebral (engineer) wife was put at ease in El's presence, and trusted her care implicitly. El's approach to fertility support is deeply trauma-informed, compassionate, and thorough.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Home IUI
-
At-home IUI (intrauterine insemination) is a fertility procedure performed in your home by a licensed midwife. During ovulation, washed sperm is placed directly into the uterus using a thin catheter, increasing the chances of conception. Bay Fertility Care handles everything — sperm preparation, cycle tracking, and precisely timed insemination — in the comfort of your own home in the San Francisco Bay Area.
-
Fertility clinics typically operate Monday–Friday during business hours, which means if you ovulate on a weekend or holiday, your IUI may happen at a suboptimal time. Bay Fertility Care is on-call around the clock, so your insemination is timed to your peak fertility window — not a clinic's schedule. Care is also more personalized, relationship-based, and holistic. Read more about fertility care options in the SF Bay Area here.
